Jeff Taylor for Galveston City Council

Built on Service. Driven by Community.

Our Mission

Meet Jeff Taylor

For nearly 20 years, District 2 has been my home. Not a stepping stone. Not a campaign backdrop. Home. I stayed through Hurricane Ike. I came back. I chose this place — and I keep choosing it. I know its people, its history, and its challenges because I’ve lived them right alongside you.

I’m running for City Council because this community deserves a council member who is deeply rooted in it — someone who understands not just the issues, but the people behind them.

As Manager of The Salvation Army Center of Hope, I see our city’s strengths and struggles every single day. Before that, I spent a career in law enforcement — from patrol officer to division commander — learning what it means to serve a community and earn its trust. I’ve also worked in Galveston’s hospitality industry, so I understand what tourism brings to this island and what it costs the people who live here year-round.

I’m ready to bring that same commitment to City Council.

Key Issues

Streets & Flooding

District 2 deserves continued investment in the streets and drainage that residents depend on every day. I’ll make sure infrastructure dollars reflect the needs of the people who live here.

Short-Term Rentals

Vacation rentals are displacing the families and workers who make our community function. We need smart, enforceable policies that protect our neighborhoods while allowing responsible use.

Managing Growth

Tourism and cruise growth bring real opportunity — but also traffic, parking, and strain on our neighborhoods. Residents can’t be an afterthought. Livability has to come first.

Homelessness

Real solutions require compassion and coordination — not slogans or just moving the problem out of sight. I’ll bring that same commitment to the council chamber.

Education & Our Students

City leadership must actively partner with GISD, Galveston College, UTMB, and TAMUG to ensure every student on this island feels safe, supported, and connected.

Keeping Galveston Affordable

Longtime residents — workers, retirees, families — are being priced out of the neighborhoods they built. Our future depends on protecting the people already here.
